Siri, recognizing that ChatGPT could offer valuable suggestions, will ask for your permission to share your question and then present the AI-generated menu options directly to you. This integration extends beyond just food ideas; users can also include photos with their questions. For instance, if you’re seeking decorating advice, you can take a picture of your space and ask Siri for plant recommendations. Siri will confirm if it’s okay to share your photo with ChatGPT and return personalized suggestions.
The capabilities don’t stop at photos. You can also ask questions related to documents, presentations, or PDFs. Furthermore, ChatGPT is now part of Apple’s system-wide writing tools with Compose. This feature allows you to create content for any writing project. Suppose you want to craft a custom bedtime story for your six-year-old who loves butterflies and solving riddles. Input your idea and let ChatGPT help you flesh it out. Compose can also leverage ChatGPT’s image generation abilities to create illustrations in various styles to accompany your story.
Access to ChatGPT through Siri will be free and doesn’t require creating an account. Importantly, your requests and information will not be logged. However, for those who subscribe to ChatGPT, there’s the added benefit of connecting your account to access premium features directly within Apple’s ecosystem.
User control and privacy remain paramount. You will always be asked before any of your information is shared with ChatGPT. This feature will roll out later this year with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Apple also plans to support other AI models in the future, broadening the scope and capabilities of this integration.
